Dark Age EX Review by Ozymandias
Yes, I'm now reviewing the remake of Dark Age after my infamous negative review of the original. So what has changed?
Graphics: 7/10
Yes, the original graphics-including enemies-are as impressive as ever. The ripped town and dungeon graphics-at least I assume they're ripped-are well used too. The only flaws are that a few of the enemies, such as the red dragon towards the start, appear a bit too "shiny". Another is the occasional graphical glitch involving NPCs. I also disliked that chests do not change appearance when you open them, but I'm not too annoyed by it.
Gameplay: 10/10
Unlike the vast majority of TK games, the gameplay is actually fun, an improvement on the first one. The gameplay is also challenging-this is, of course, a positive. Darius' ability reminds me of Cyan's ability from Final Fantasy VI. The only difference is that Dark Age's is actually useful and fun to use.
Plotline: 9/10
Unlike most TK games, this game has a actual, fully complete plotline with good, if simple, characters. The opening reminded me too much of Final Fantasy IV, which is the only part I dislike. After you get past the mountains, this vanishes.
Programming: 10/10
No real programming problems or glitches that I could see. The only glitches I saw, as said above, were graphical in nature.
This is one of the few full, long games for the Toolkit. Among all the games made with it, Dark Age-both this and the original (yes, I retract my prior ill-conceived review)-is clearly one of the best, if not the best.
